As a EMDR certified clinician I integrate Somatic Experiencing with a person-centered approach to support clients in healing from past trauma. Traumatic experiences, whether a major event such as abuse, neglect, accidents or more subtle emotional injuries leave their mark on the nervous system. Trauma is stored in the body and is most effectively healed with the body in mind. Often people who have undergone an adverse experience may have symptoms such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, low self-worth, flashbacks, dissociation, numbness, and difficulty in relationships.
EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) can be an extremely effective way to treat trauma and resolve other issues that clients bring to therapy. As you heal with EMDR, you will find your brain can learn from what was useful about the traumatic experience and it will be able to let go the rest. Noticing the body with somatic interventions during EMDR releases energy bound in the body at the time of a traumatic event.
My approach is warm and empathetic. I believe that people are experts on themselves and my role is to provide a safe environment in which to facilitate personal exploration, growth and deep healing.
